Choosing the right oil for your rotary heat press

There are two types of oil used on the roller heat transfer machine, one is bearing lubricating oil, and the other is heat transfer thermal oil in the roller. If it is an electric rotary heat press machine, there is no need to fill thermal oil.

For the bearings: In general, calandras require lubrication with high-temperature oils that are designed to withstand the heat and pressure involved in the operation of the machine. These oils are often formulated to provide excellent thermal stability, prevent oxidation, and reduce friction. Synthetic oils or specialty heat-resistant lubricants may be used in certain cases.

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your roll heat press machine, it is essential to grease the Mobil SHC 460 for all the bearings every month if it is run about 8 hours a day and 5 days a week. Of course, other high-temperature lubricants can also be used. However, this high-temperature lubricant is what we have been using and tested, and it can withstand high temperatures without drying out.

For the drum: The specific type of thermal oil required for a roll sublimation calender machine can be any of these oils: Chevron Heat Transfer Oil 46 ,Mobil 605 , Mobil 610, Mobil 611, Shell heat transfer oil S2, Petrocanada CALFLO AF heat transfer liquid, etc.

Since the flash point and fire point of some thermal oils are not very high, they are not suitable for roller heat transfer machines. If the heat transfer oil available in your location does not have the types listed above, you need to confirm that the flash point must be above 230°C. A flash point that is too low cannot ensure the user's safe use of the machine. Because this machine often requires high-temperature thermal transfer printing on the substrate.

By purchasing thermal oil from local merchants, they can provide a detailed introduction to the thermal oil. The detailed introduction will include flash point, fire point, kinematic viscosity at 100, kinematic viscosity at 40, etc.

Usually if it is a new machine, the lubricating oil can be visually inspected to see if the manufacturer has added lubricating oil before leaving the factory.

For thermal oil, you need to confirm with the manufacturer whether thermal oil has been filled into the drum. If not, you need to confirm how many liters need to be filled, the refining method, refining time, precautions, etc. Different drum widths and drum diameters require different amounts of heat transfer oil. Closed and unclosed systems have different refining methods.
